On March 8, journalism students and professional journalists from six countries will work collaboratively to produce stories about women as part of International Women's Day. CSUN students will be joined by the Asian College of Journalism in Chennai, India; Newcastle University in the UK; the Media Initiatives Center in Yerevan, Armenia; the Liquid Media Lab in São Paulo, Brazil, and the Utrecht School of Journalism in the Netherlands.

Pop-Up Newsroom is a temporary, virtual newsroom that periodically opens to cover special topics and events, then hibernates until its next event. Reporters use their personal media devices, particularly cellphones, to provide live coverage, united with the other reporters through the use of a common hashtag. Almost all coverage takes place via Twitter. There is no permanent newsroom. Curators usually locate themselves in public spaces such as coffeehouses where they monitor the reporters' work, republishing their content through Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and other social media platforms.

More information on the Pop-Up Newsroom concept and past projects can be found on the official website.

The hashtag for the event will be #IWDPopUp
