Therapy Groups and Workshops

University Counseling Services (UCS) offers a wide variety of free therapy groups and psycho-educational workshops to currently enrolled students. 

How to Join a Therapy Group

There are a number of ways you can sign up for or find out more information about a group or workshop we are offering at University Counseling Services.

If you have any questions about a particular group or workshop, please call (818) 677-2366 and ask to speak with the counselor who is leading the group or workshop.

Submit a Group and Workshop Interest Form, and University Counseling Services will contact you.

ACT on Life

Offered Tuesdays, 12:30 to 2pm; start date to be determined

Learn new ways to be with challenging and painful experiences in order to live a more fulfilling and satisfying life. 

Anxiety Management

Offered Thursdays, 2 to 3:30pm; start date to be determined

In this safe and supportive group, you will learn new tools and coping skills that allow you to decrease your anxiety and feel more equipped to face a wide range of situations and experiences.

Building Self-Esteem

Offered Wednesdays, 3 to 4:30pm; start date to be determined

Can you feel better about yourself?

Building and maintaining self-esteem is an ongoing issue for most people.  But few of us have been taught how to feel good about ourselves in spite of our shortcomings and in the face of life’s “ups and downs.”  Join us for Building Self-Esteem and learn to be more positive and supportive of yourself.  Develop skills for improving and maintaining your self-esteem.

Face to Face

Offered Mondays, 1 to 2:30pm; drop-in group; start date to be determined

Has your phone become your best friend?  Have you forgotten how to talk to people in person?  This drop-in workshop is designed to help you rediscover the art of conversation, feel more comfortable in groups, and feel more confident when talking to others. 

Grief and Loss*

Offered Tuesdays, 3 to 4:30pm; start date to be determined

Experienced a significant loss?  Connect with a supportive group of peers dealing with death, loss, and grief.

LGBTQIA+ Support*

Offered Mondays, 2 to 3:30pm; start date to be determined

A confidential and safe space for students who identify within the LGBTQIA+ communities to receive and provide support around issues of sexual orientation and/or gender identity.  Topics discussed and explored may include identity, coming out, navigating relationships, creating support systems and feelings of safety and belonging on and off campus.  

Man 2 Man (Men of Color Support)*

Offered Fridays, 2:30 to 4pm; start date to be determined

A space for men of color to explore issues of gender, race, culture, as well as social concerns that impact their experience as men in society and the world.

Master It! (Graduate Student Support)

Offered Tuesdays, 3:30 to 5pm; start date to be determined

A safe, fun, and open space for students to receive support and feedback from their peers. Topics discussed in this group may include personal and professional relationships, academic concerns, adjusting to and leaving graduate school, coping with stress, self-esteem/confidence, identity development (personal and professional), career issues, and intersections of cultural identity.


Offered Mondays, 12 to 1pm; drop-in workshop, held in Santa Susana Hall

A drop in mindfulness workshop open to all CSUN students, faculty and staff.  Provides individuals with an opportunity to engage in a brief mindfulness meditation practice as a means to increase an overall sense of wellness.  This workshop is a partnership with the Institute for Community Health and Well Being, and the facilitators rotate from week to week.

Not Alone*

Offered Wednesdays, 1 to 2:30pm; start date to be determined

Come share your experiences in a safe environment and learn tips to help in coping with depression. You are not alone!

Overcoming Procrastination

Offered Thursdays, 1 to 3pm; start date to be determined

Do you put things off to the last minute?  Blend awareness with proven techniques to get things done effectively.

Reshaping Body Image*

Offered Tuesdays, 10:30am to 12pm; start date to be determined

A safe, supportive space for you to talk about your body image and/or disordered eating concerns, explore and gain insight into your body image and/or disordered eating concerns, and engage in activities that help you move toward self-acceptance.

Feeling NOT ENOUGH? Not smart enough, not pretty enough, not talented enough, not good enough?

You are not alone in this! Please join us in our journey toward self-compassion, a short-term group experience aiming at developing healthier views of self.

Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse*

Offered Wednesdays, 1 to 2:30pm; start date to be determined

Do you wonder if and how childhood sexual abuse may have impacted you? Hidden scars such as feelings of depression, shame, anger, loneliness, low self-esteem and betrayal can negatively affect your relationships.

You will learn:

  • Coping skills and strategies
  • Techniques for forgiving yourself
  • Taking charge of your life
  • Letting go of painful feelings

A safe space for individuals to work through and get support related to the trauma of molestation and incest.  Learn how you can free yourself from these hidden scars. Learn to move from silence to empowerment in your healing journey. Learn how to take better care of yourself and become a more loving and whole human being.

Understanding Self & Others*

Offered Tuesdays, 2 to 3:30pm; start date to be determined

A warm & supportive environment in which you can explore new ways of relating to others, connect through sharing personal experiences, and gain insight into yourself.

We're First

Offered Wednesdays, 3 to 4:30pm; start date to be determined

Safe space for first generation college students to discuss the challenges they face and receive guidance and support in navigating those challenges. If you're the first person in your family to go to college, among the first in your family to pursue a B.A., the first in your family to attend college in the U.S., or you identify as a first generation college student in any other way, this group is for you!

Women's Support*

Offered Fridays, 10 to 11:30am; start date to be determined

A supportive space for women to explore issues related to being a woman in our society.
